The overall SAFER Bay Project is a multi-jurisdictional and public-private collaboration to protect communities and critical infrastructure from sea level rise and tidal flooding in the cities of Menlo Park and East Palo Alto. Using both engineered structures and nature-based flood protection, the effort consists of a 7.5-mile alignment along the southeast San Francisco Bay shoreline designed to provide a 100-year level of tidal flood protection in and up to 3.5 feet of projected sea-level rise. The project will restore more than 550 acres of former salt ponds into tidal marshes. Feasibility Studies were completed in 2016.
