Scope of work: Concrete K-rail barriers shall meet Caltrans standards as shown on Caltrans Standard Plans sheet T3A for 20-foot long K-rail panels. K-rail can be new or used but need to be natural concrete grey color or painted white. K-rail panels are to be connected with standard 1-1/4” bolts and all gaps in K-rail are to be sealed watertight. Sealing of K-rail can be achieved by using sandbags, expanding foam sealant, plastic sheeting or an approved alternate method – refer to Figures 1 - 2 Examples of K-Rail Installation. K-rail is to be placed along an existing unpaved vehicle service road adjacent to Carneros Creek and within the Santa Barbara Airport security fence – refer to Figures 4 - 5 K-Rail Location and Figure 6 - Unpaved Vehicle Service Road. K-rail shall be placed between the creek’s top of bank and the vehicle service road. The intent is to keep the vehicle service road usable for vehicles after the K-rail is installed, but still maintain a minimum edge distance of 2’-0” from the creek’s top of bank and disturb the existing vegetation as little as possible. Santa Barbara Airport will mark the starting location for the K-rail and general layout of the K-rail. Contractor will be required to submit for any FAA clearances if equipment used to unload and place the k-rail exceeds 15 feet in height above grade (https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/portal.jsp). FAA review of the clearance request can take up to 45 calendar days. Care shall be taken by the Contractor to minimize damage to the project site (service road, grassy areas, vegetation). The project site is within an environmentally sensitive area. Contractor shall supply all lighting required to complete this work (required for night work only). Bonds required. Prevailing wages.
