The Port Area Infrastructure Project originally began as a project intended to address the poor pavement conditions along Southport Parkway. Since then, this Project has expanded to include not only road rehabilitation, but also other complete streets elements, including filling sidewalk gaps, adding bike lanes, upgrading utilities to enhance safety and to meet the needs of pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and public transportation uses along Harbor Blvd from the US 50 On/Off ramp to Industrial Blvd; Industrial Blvd from Harbor Blvd to the Palamidessi Bridge; Lake Washington Blvd from the Palamidessi Bridge to Southport Parkway; and Southport Parkway from Lake Washington Blvd to Promenade Street. The high percentage of truck traffic in the Project area has significantly impacted the pavement conditions. The City recently completed the Neighborhood Pavement Preservation program which focused on preserving and maintaining local roadways. Southport Parkway between Lake Washington Blvd and Ramco Street was included as part of this Project. The dig out work completed was intended to temporarily address the most damaged areas of Southport Parkway, and although it has helped the pavement conditions, it is evident that this was a temporary solution and a more permanent solution is required.
