Memorial Park War Memorial Construction. Overall, this project includes cleaning, structural repairs, and application of a protective coating on the Veterans Memorial clocktower, located in Memorial Park at 300 South Union Boulevard. Based on observations and testing performed in January 2022 and a petrographic investigation report issued on February 25, 2022, the concrete of the memorial is exhibiting cracking and deterioration due to severe alkali-silica reaction (ASR). Water-mitigating repairs are required to limit future deterioration. The Veterans Memorial clocktower consists of five vertical concrete elements surrounding a round, concrete room. Non-concrete aspects on the vertical concrete elements include metal decorative elements at the top, speakers at the top, and embedded lightning protection. Non-concrete aspects on the central concrete room include the stone cap elements at the top and five embedded metal medallions. The repair of the memorial will begin with the removal of the existing paint coating at the base of the columns, the patching of any damaged or spalled concrete. Next, all steel elements will be inspected for corrosion by the contractor, and all corroded elements will be cleaned and repainted. Once concrete and steel repairs are complete, the memorial columns will receive a penetrating corrosion inhibitor followed by a transparent silicone coating. Lastly, the memorial will receive flashing at the top of each of the five vertical concrete elements. This project does not include concrete work on any surrounding sidewalk or repair of any of the adjacent memorial Bonds required. Prevailing wages.
