The project consists of widening and replacing 4,935 linear feet of Coffman Road just north of Whitewater, Colorado, in Mesa County. The existing road section is in various stages of structural failure and need of replacement. Also, the existing road section is approximately 22 feet wide and will be extended to 28 feet wide through the project area. This road has been rebuilt and repaired by various methods over the decades, and this resultant existing imported structural material will be utilized to create a cement treated full-depth-reclamation (FDR). The majority of the road section will be raised from existing grade, constructing an FDR subgrade section 12 inches deep across the entire 28 foot width by processing 16 inches of the existing 22 foot wide road structure. From the top of the FDR subgrade, a standard fabric/road base/asphalt/concrete section will be constructed. In the cut areas of this project, the 28 foot new section will be excavated 36 inches below existing grade. At the bottom of this excavation, 19 inches of structural fill will be installed on a fabric. From there, an FDR section and standard road base/asphalt/concrete section will be installed. The vast majority of the road will be asphalt, with a section of concrete installed in areas of heavy truck turning traffic. The project will also have associated storm drain improvements at existing culvert crossings, and existing sanitary sewer manholes will be adjusted to match the new road grades. These sanitary adjustments will include a combination of removal or addition of grade rings, cones, and riser sections depending on the adjustment. Bonds required.
