Project No. 0047-0122 is located on CT Route 140 (Crystal Lake Road in the towns of Ellington and Tolland. The project begins 0.19 miles west of the intersection of Route 140 and Pinnacle Road and extends to 0.95 miles to approximately the driveway for 155 Crystal Lake Road. The purpose of this project is to improve the substandard roadway geometry along the section of Route 140. This project is needed because this section of CT Route 140 does not meet current design standards as it contains multiple sharp curves, including consecutive reverse curves, as well as unsafe intersections with substandard sight distances. The horizontal curves at the Pinnacle Road and Hopkins Road intersections have inadequate intersection and stopping sight distances, inadequate superelevation and hazardous roadside conditions. Immediately adjacent to the roadway are steep side slopes and ledge outcrops. The scope of this project also includes drainage and roadside safety improvements. Required Prequalification Work Classification(s): 7A- Major Reconstruction of Non-Freeway State Routes. Buy America Certificates. DBE Goal: 8% Bonds required. Prevailing wages.
