Sebring Airport Authority (hereafter referred to as “SAA”), Highlands County, Sebring, Florida, requests proposals for clearing-excavation of the center of airport perimeter drainage canal and the clearing of vegetation along the eastern, top of bank. The project for Airport Perimeter Canal Maintenance Clearing Segment 3 for SAA is located on the west side of the airport along Webster Turn Drive. The work efforts as detailed within the construction plans will include: The project begins in the channel section north of Gate 8A canal crossing and continues downstream to the south edge of the West Pond. The maintenance clearing work effort involves removal of vegetation, trees, soil, muck, and debris from the bottom of the channel section for a total length of 1,445-feet. Existing drainage structures that discharge into the canal are to be protected. The width of the channel section varies along the project length. The canal currently has heavy vegetation and soil deposits within the center. Tree growth is along the canal slopes with spoil banks along the top of the canal. The excavated material from the channel section will be removed from the western side of the canal and hauled to either of the two stockpile locations at the ends of the canal clearing project. Means and method or the need to dewater is to be determined by the contractor. In addition, bid alternates include vegetation clearing along the eastern, top of bank that is to be completed as detailed in the construction plans. This work effort is to achieve a clean appearance along the eastern edge of the airport perimeter canal. Smaller vegetation is to be removed, and large, significant trees will remain and be protected. These tasks are defined as Bid Alternative 1 for the southern segment and Bid Alternative 2 for the northern segment. Bid Alternative 3 includes two segments of ditch that will have sedimentation removed. The 200-ft ditch segment south of Gate 8A that was previously maintained requires cleaning out of recent sediment that has accumulated and a 90-ft ditch segment along Ulmann Drive has sediment to be removed.
