Location of work: Upper Basin of the Bunker Hill Mining and Metallurgical Complex Superfund Site, approximately 6 miles northeast of Wallace, Idaho. The work will involve installation of the final cover system of the EFNM WCA to isolate previously place mine waste from the basin. The majority of the work will be located in steep and remote mountainous terrain. Activities include, but are not limited to, the following: Access road maintenance. Erosion control best management practice (BMP) installation and maintenance. Clearing, grubbing, and log and root wad salvage and stockpiling. Drainage control features (i.e., channels, benches, swales) installation. Quarry development (and closure), which includes blasting and processing blasted rock to create specific construction materials. Development and implementation of an Environmental Protection Plan with activities that include: stormwater management, decontamination procedures, site winterization, and housekeeping. Installation of 3 layer liner system consisting of a Geotextile, textured Geomembrane, and Geocomposite Drainage layers. Installation of liner cover system consisting of 1-inch minus material, salvaged soil and lime-amended cover soil. Amend final cover system with Proganics BSM and Richlawn Fertilizer Installation of quarry access road. Permanent seed on the final cover system. Performing quantity and as-built surveys. Implementing a robust quality assurance project plan for certifying materials generated in the quarry are clean. Preparing as-build record drawings, and preparing documentation and reporting to meet the Coeur d’Alene Trust and the EPA requirements.
