The work to be done under this contract shall consist of furnishing personnel, materials and equipment to replace, or repair Impact Attenuators (Crash Cushions) on various highways, within District 3. Types of existing Impact Attenuators may include, but are not limited to, Fitch (Sand) Barrels, Energite (Sand) Barrels, Guardrail Energy Absorbing Terminal (GREAT) Systems, QuadGuard, Dry Hex-Foam Sandwich Barrier Systems, Trinity Attenuator Crash Cushions (TRACC), TAU-II and Smart Cushion Crash Cushion Systems. Attention is directed to Engineering Directive E-20-004. For any permanent impact attenuator that is found to be damaged beyond repair shall be replaced with a MASH compliant permanent impact attenuator. If there are no appropriate MASH compliant impact attenuators available, MassDOT will allow appropriate NCHRP-350 compliant systems to be installed as directed by the Engineer. Damaged impact attenuator systems able to be repaired, and/or repositioned as determined by the Engineer, shall be repaired based upon a per each basis and parts will be paid for under the non-bid section of these Special Provisions. New impact attenuator systems shall be installed based upon a per each basis and parts will be paid for under the non-bid section of these Special Provisions. Bonds required. Prevailing wages.
