The City of Cedar Park (the “City”) currently purchases its raw water from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), and after treatment, serves approximately 23,000 water service connections. While the City's surface water supplies are projected to meet demands through 2070 and at full build-out of developable land, Cedar Park seeks to enhance its water supply resiliency, particularly in response to the potential for continued or future droughts. This study aims to explore alternative water supplies that can provide additional security, diversification, and flexibility within the City’s water portfolio. The alternative water supply study will evaluate a range of options to improve resilience and ensure drought protection, with a focus on innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable approaches. The selected consultant will conduct expert analysis, propose alternative water supply options, develop cost estimates for implementation and production of alternative sources, and recommend strategies for their integration into Cedar Park’s existing water system. Objectives Evaluate Alternative Water Sources: Assess a broad range of alternative water supply options to supplement the current surface water supply from the LCRA, particularly during droughts or emergencies. Improve Resilience: Enhance the City’s water system resilience by identifying strategies that diversify the water portfolio, reduce dependency on surface water, and mitigate the impacts of drought. Ensure Future Water Security: Provide recommendations that ensure a sustainable and secure water supply to meet future demands and conditions.
