This project consists of improvements to an approximately six-acre parcel at Glencoe Street and George Washington Highway (Rte 17) in the City of Chesapeake, Virginia, to create a park adjacent to the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail. Improvements include sitework, landscaping, hardscaping (sidewalks, parking) and the construction of a Visitor Center. The Visitor Center is a one-story, wood framed structure that will include an exhibit space, orientation space, administrative offices and public restrooms. The recently restored Cornland School is adjacent to this site, and electrical and communication connections from the Visitor Center to the Schoolhouse is part of the Work. A portion of the parking lot was completed under the Cornland School project, and the completion of the parking lot and final surfacing of the existing parking lot is included in this work. The BMP created under the Cornland School project will be extended and enlarged as part of this work.
