The intent of this project is to restore approximately 2,300 lf of the Accotink Creek North Fork, from Fair Woods Pkwy to Ranger Road Park. This segment of stream is impaired by bank erosion, channelization, erosion related tree loss, and limited floodplain connectivity. The project involves lowering the elevation of the stream corridor to reconnect the stream to the floodplain and realigning the stream to provide sinuosity. Two outfalls adjacent to Fair Woods Pkwy will also be restored through this project. The grade changes through the stream corridor will require significant tree removal and implementation of a robust landscaping plan. The city has obtained all required state and federal permitting, temporary construction easements on private property, and plan approval. A 3rd party firm will provide construction management and inspection services for the city. This project will provide pollutant reduction credits towards the city's Accotink Creek and Chesapeake Bay TMDLs. Bonds required.
