The purpose of this project is to extend Government Center Parkway to connect Waples Mill Road (Route 655) with Jermantown Road (Route 6634) in the City of Fairfax, Virginia and Fairfax County, Virginia. It should be noted that the project limits straddle the line between the County and the City of Fairfax. The private street that currently connects to Jermantown, James Swart Circle, will be widened to accommodate the increased traffic between the two thoroughfares. Bike lanes and sidewalks will also be constructed to connect existing facilities. Scope: • Removal and demolition of existing concrete curb and gutter, fences, concrete sidewalk, drainage structures, storm pipe, and existing pavement; • Site clearing, preparation, grading, and other miscellaneous demolition; • Sidewalk and curb-and-gutter construction, including subgrade, subbase, and hydraulic cement concrete placement; • Asphalt pavement placement, including subgrade, subbase, and asphalt concrete layers; • Pedestrian accommodations including installation of PROWAG/ADA-compliant ramps, handrail, And crosswalks; • Storm drainage improvement including installation of storm sewer pipes, underdrain, standard, VDOT drainage structures, and non-standard storm water management water quality structures; • Permanent signage and pavement markings; • Street landscaping and plantings; • Installation of conduits and concrete foundations for future street lights; • Traffic signal modifications; • All measures required for erosion & sediment control and maintenance oftraffic; • Materials testing in accordance with the current VDOT Inspection Manual; and • Other items necessary for completion of the work per contract documents. DBE goal 12%. Bonds required. Prevailing wages.
